Hi, new KDE NEON user here.
I have got (typical? ) bug when installing this distriubution: Returned to the GRUB menu during EFI boot. So, that's not easy system loading. To be exact: When booting computer I choose Linux, but I can only see the grub2 command line itself, and the system further doesn't load. On the other hand, when I use Windows loader and use auxiliary options of the UEFI (I will choose to load from a specific device (HDD here) ) Linux fires up. Note: I downloaded and installed Kde Neon in pendrive (using RUFUS). The version is "neon-useredition-20180816-1023-amd64.iso". Should I format the linux partitions (I did them with Linux Mint in the past) and install another version? Or try to rescue exisiting system by copying some files, etc. ? |

Hi,
yes, I have the same problem. Neon is runing nicely off the stick, but after install I get only the Grub as well. Tried to uae different boot sektions but that didnt help either. Pretty sad, a system which is not bootable on harddrive is pretty useless. Dis look nice for a start though.. Cheers, Atmo |

Well, all I can say is that all current ISOs pass numerous tests with UEFI in a VM. So, there is a good chance something pre-existing is messing things up (the tests all start with empty disks)
Annoyed with bbcode since 1999.

@Atmo:
Well, I tried different ways to fix that problem, asked some people, etc., but the issue still exists. So, after some time I just fed up with it, and packed up my things and moved... into another distribution named Linux Mint Cinammon (welcome GNOME ). Really, it seems to me KDE NEON system is not polished perfectly to daily use and/or for plain linux user. ![]() It looks like it is managed by few (busy?!) people only, whereas Cinnamon makes huge nice impact for me (though it is not so visually "fancy" as Neon. :>) because of its stability and reliability. So, this would be my last post in KDE world.

Hi,
Did you try sudo update-grub from the grub2 command line and reboot? Also consider to read this post and try to reinstall KDE Neon. https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/t ... -windows#3 Hope it helps, |

Yeah,
thanks, tried the sudo command but grub stated it doesn't even know a sudo command. Looks like I have to look for another operating system. Maybe KDE is not installable on a Macbook. Who knows, Thanx a lot anyway

Thanks a lot,
no, still no go.... Complete wipe, right boot sector chosen, still only boots in Grub two command line which doesn't accept anything. Running fine on the stick though, just a bit slow and doesn't keep any memory... I am a hundred percent sure it must be a bug with the Os, because Kubuntu was booting all right. Wiped off all the Ubuntu leftovers too. |

Can you boot the system using SuperGrubDisk?

o.k.,done... Installed super grub on a stick and rebooted via option key (Macbook pro high sierra) Supergrub told me no filesystem readable...., that puzzeled me a bit.. Went back to the install Ubuntu site and realized that I could zoom in onto the screenshot showing the disc partitions. I had choosen the wrong filesystem.... several times that is..... Now it;s all running smoothly with EFI boot... Thanks a lot for your help Cheers |
