I tried to install the latest neon builds on a new TR 2950 machine--three tries with user (10.11.2018), once with git stable developer (10.16) editions. Each time the install worked but updates failed with hours-long hangs on different package downloads. In desperation I tried Manjaro and it worked perfectly. I'd rather use neon on all my boxes....

Not sure what could be up, all I can say is that I installed Neon User on 10/10 and all has been fine. I did find a fault - I tried the Dev Stable ISO and it wouldn't start the installer program (so I used Neon User and change the repos to Dev Stable) but the latest Dev Stable ISO I downloaded (16/10) has fixed this, although I doubt this has anything to do with your problem, just saying!
If you want to try again, you could run
in the terminal to see what happens - maybe a repo problem? Driver problem??

Thanks for answering.
Same issue--pkcon hangs while one or another repository database reaches some download point. Meanwhile, I upgraded a ryzon 1800x box from 16.04 to 18.04 based neon user last night and it worked perfectly. Different machine, different situation, different network. I don't know if the problem is the machine, the network, or repeated bad luck, but manjaro worked flawlessly 1st time. Frankly, I'd rather keep neon on all my machines, but will wait for a refreshed iso before I try again. Cheers! |
