I don't know where to post it, in which thread but it's anyway related most probably to Neon distro or KDE itself...since I've used iso image with release date around 08 november 2018 after installation everything goes well and after some updates something starts with disk, some packages are stuck during installation process while hard drive works all the time like processing some files forever and then silences, then some files in ~/.config folder have changed permissions like only readable...then after reboot I have to use fsck to repair disk filesystem partition because system won't load due to there disk errors.

Any ideas? I have new laptop, concrete brand so I don't think it's broken mechanically.

There were two ISO images published on the 8th November. The first one was faulty and replaced by the snapshot:

neon-useredition-20181108-1900-amd64.iso

Please check that the image you have used is this one. If not download this image and try again.

Thanks for clearing some things up. I used neon-useredition-20181108-1900-amd64 downloaded and installed 09 nov 2018 so it seems they're same, I'll use newer version, somehow I have now additionally broken Discovery package manager which won't start...

It seems there're now all iso files with broken Neon packages in KDE Neon download section, it must be repaired quickly. Or they are ok as some other issues started with liveusb with much older date. It may be some update/s.

I used the same ISO image and the install went fine. This image is the latest.

During first boot after Neon install I had black screen with cursor when Plasma was meant to be normally loaded and probably accidentally found a way to work around it via pressing ctrl+shift+f1/f2 which should switch to tty mode anyway but it finished loading and showed plasma desktop as it should be from the start...after that the whole system worked well until some updates came or some hidden processes on disk were done in the background which changed permissions in ~/.config folder and made some disk errors. Something messes in updated latest package management or package installation.

I experience this the first time using Neon as its former releases like KDE 5.13.x or pre Ubuntu 18.04 LTS were stable. I tried to install newer linux kernels using Ukuu software and it went painfully: none installation went clearly from start to finish, I always needed to cancel as the installation was stuck (hard disk) and retry using Synaptic or terminal. Now I'm affraid to install anything or just to make any hard disk operations as the system may stuck again...but fsck fixed all disk errors and didn't log any permanent physical disk errors.

This pattern of errors created after fresh system install occured few times as I reinstalled Neon few times - it went same way, same sequence.

less possible source of these issue may be one of PPAs that I use but I use only the most popular and few like gimp, blender, nvidia drivers, sort of that, no anything really exotic.

FYI I updated to kernel 4.19 with UKUU (and latest mesa with x-team PPA) without any issues four days ago. It's still working flawlessly.

The issue occured after updating laptop bios to the latest, the whole process went fine but since then I've experienced disk errors on both partitions (windows and linux) and in both cases all errors were reported as fixed but only Windows seems to work back fine while Neon still has same issue, packages installing takes years, overall very poor disk performance and I few times deleted whole ext4 partition and created it from scratch/installed whole Neon again, so it's weird anyway, sooner than later some weird things start to happen with file access or inability to make some read/write operations and installing anything new or any changes like deinstalling/updating packages either way hangs or takes almost infinity to finish.

I don't know is it just a bad coincident (hard drive errors and possibly broken former Neon iso) but I made new liveusb from recent Neon iso file (dated 15 november) and again fresh installed Neon and after first, very long load, another reboot went pretty fast and now Neon seems back to its initial performance which means fast and any installation packages goes normally. Will check further for any weird signs but hopefully none of them will come.

this maybe an answer as I shortly after installing fresh KDE Neon upgraded to kernel 4.19 via ukuu app, will try install again Neon and stay with kernel initially shipped and see what will happen.
