Hi
I use dev stable on my television / home theater / music player setup. So, I have dedicated activities for music, video etc. As of about a week ago, I am not precisely sure, I noticed that the "cashew" was not working. After a little more observation i noticed that the cashew worked ONCE and then did not work. A RESTART enabled the cashew for one more use. After some fiddling and restarts I noticed that the right click for desktop for "configure desktop" has an expanded number of things which can be done from the menu options. I tried the "reset the desktop" and it did, indeed, reset the desktop. The activities disappeared! :0 But, after another restart the activities were back only without their background images, but functional. So, the OS is working fine, the cashew still just does one click to work and the left click to change activities and the right click with expanded menu options works. So, this is "just a question"....is there "work being done" on the Cashew and/or the right click on desktop that is a portent of maybe the cashew soon to go into oblivion....or is there going to be a new role for the cashew maybe or is there a new synerism planned for the right click on desktop and the cashew? Or....is there some setting of which I am not aware or is it possibly an "unreported bug"? Just askin' ![]() woodsmoke |

I don't think the "cashew" will go into oblivion. However, there is a new option in the desktop settings dialog under Tweaks to "Show the desktop toolbox" which you can uncheck to make it go away (per-activity?) (not sure how new; I don't think it's been there for the whole of plasma 5's life, but it exists as of 5.12)

Hi airdrik
thank you for the nice and prompt reply. I had not thought of it that particular way about enabling the desktop tweaks which I probably did and just forgot. lol I, personally, have never understood the rather strident complaints on the net about "how can I get rid of the cashew". I mean if you are buying into the OS then it would seem that people should want the whole magilla..dunno. Anyway, thanks again for the reply! ![]() woodsmoke |

iirc, the complaints have largely been that it ruins the aesthetic of an otherwise clean-looking desktop/wallpaper. The counter is that it provides a guaranteed way of getting to the desktop settings in case you were to disable the right-click menu (doable in the Mouse Actions tab).
Of course now that the Tweak setting is available you can both remove the "Cashew" and also disable the mouse buttons in Mouse Actions which would result in having no way to get back into desktop settings. If someone were to do this then as far as I know the only way to restore access to those menus is by manually changing the config files.
