Ever since the Qt 5.12 update rolled out, it has been nearly impossible to successfully double click any desktop icon (folder view mode, set to Desktop). It occasionally works, but most of the time, it does nothing. It only happens in the desktop... regular folder views in Dolphin work normally. It does not matter what the content type is that I am attempting to click on, whether a text file, an image, a folder, a shell script, or a video.
Right click and selecting "open" works fine. This happens on all three of my PCs running KDE Neon (User). One's a Sandy i5, one's a Coffee Lake i7, one's an Apollo Lake Pentium (SoC). The latter two are laptops, while the first is a desktop. They all do it. The i5 uses a discrete Nvidia, the i7 uses Nvidia Prime (so a hybrid Nvidia/Intel setup), and the Apollo Lake uses the Intel iGPU. The Nvidia GPUs use the 415 proprietary driver, and the Intels use the kernel modesetting driver. I've tried both the 4.15 and 4.18 Ubuntu kernels with the same results. I tried creating a new user and logging in with that, and it still had the issue. I tried to install Neon into a VM (VirtualBox) to see whether a clean installation (after updates were applied) of Neon would have the issue too, but all I got was a black screen once I booted into the guest Neon. Anyone else see this? Is there a workaround? TIA! |

I have had my KDE neon desktop set for single click to open items so this issue was not visible to me. Upon changing to double click I am seeing the same issue as you, i.e., having to select Open vs. double clicking items which does not work here.

I have the same problem. In the above link you can see the strange behavior of this problem. In the kaos linux distribution in live mode, with kde 5.14.4 and qt 5.12 this problem does not appear It seems to me that in qt 5.12.1 this has been corrected |

I think he treats icons on the desktop as a html link, this is a case like a windows when it was introduced one-click.

I can not open either with double-click or one-click, but I open with right-click and open from the menu that appears on the screen. I do not put the icons on the screen, it's enough to type a few start letters of the program and see the system offer this program or more programs ![]() |

Hi,
I can't always repeat the problem. But I have no idea what's causing this problem. A situation that occurs randomly. Have a good day. |

I'm also experiencing this on KDE NEON that I started to install a couple of months back, and was just finishing off over the last few days (moving from Mint KDE). I can reproduce this as follows: If there are no open windows/menus etc showing on the desktop, double clicking a desktop icon will not open/run whatever the icon is meant to do. If any other window is open on the desktop, or just the menu from the "K" button, double clicking the icons works fine. I first noticed this yesterday after letting the system apply all outstanding updates, and then adding things to the desktop (which was clean prior to this). So I don't know if one of the updates caused this, but it is certainly annoying! Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated ![]() |

I'd hoped that today's 5.15 update would fix it, but after that and the 5.55 frameworks updates, it still does not accept the double-clicks. Bah!
Tikay, indeed you are right. If I leave another window open, it works... that must have been why it was sometimes working before for me. I probably had a window open! I wonder if it would be possible to create an invisible window that serves the same purpose. |

Hi, tikay's right. I did what they said and the icons work with double-click when a window is opened on the desktop. However, icons do not work with double-click when the desktop is empty (when a window is not opened or when the window is minimized). I'm just curious, isn't KDE and neon developers looking at this forum? Have a good day. |

Yes, I can also confirm that after installing all outstanding updates last night the problem is fixed. Not sure which one fixed it, but thanks to whoever did that
