I am trying to install Neon on a Toshiba Satellite P55t-B5154 laptop.

I am putting it on two 100GB partitions (root, /home) and using rEFInd as my bootloader (I am multi-booting several OSs).

Neon boots up fine from the USB drive. I do manual installation, adding my existing ntfs /Data drive (no format) so it automatically shows when I boot up.

When I reboot, rEFInd sees the Neon bootloader, I start it, get the KDE splash, then I get a black screen with a cursor, and nothing else. No buttons affect anything. Right-clicking on my mouse does nothing, though I can move the cursor with said mouse (a Logitech MX Master with dongle). Alt+F2 does not get me a terminal.

I am currently booted into my primary OS, Mint KDE 18.3, so I haven't broken anything on the machine. I just thought I'd take Neon out for a spin, since Mint 19 dropped KDE from their list.

Any suggestions as to what I did wrong?

I figured it out:

Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get the terminal

Code: Select all
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade --fix-missing
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
reboot
