Kickstarter Menu disappeared

Wed Jul 31, 2019 8:58 am
Hello everyone, this is my first post.

I installed KDE Neon 4 days ago because I particularly like the look and feel of KDE Plasma. I've used KDE Plasma before on other distros, including Mint and Manjaro. I've also used Ubuntu, and many years ago Red Hat and Mandrake. I immediately started installing some more software, including a dock, Chromium and Kodi, as well as experimenting with Settings and I downloaded then applied a theme called Mac OS Mojave. Of course, I installed a few Video Add Ons to Kodi, including Odin and 7 of 9, then everything seemed fine. I also installed a Video Add On called Destiny of 7 of 9, which seemed to be incomplete and didn't work.

About 24 hours ago I suddenly found out that my Kickstarter Menu had disappeared! I also have two task bars at the top and bottom and can left click or right click to get some options to come up, but I have no access to software I've installed, such as Kodi and Chromium. Apart from this, KDE Plasma usually remembers what the user was doing during the last session and restores these activities. This is often useful, but I don't think it is in this case. Each time I boot up, a program called Notes is already running and has opened a tiny window at the bottom of the screen in the middle. I can't even find a way to close this program.

As I've done in the past with various distros when things went wrong, I selected the extended option from the GRUB menu to try and fix things. I selected "fix broken packages" as well as clean. I've done this several times now, but my Kickstarter Menu hasn't been restored and Notes is still running.

I've noticed that there iare options to boot into Cinnamon Desktop, as well as into Kodi. I selected Cinnamon, then I found I had the Cinnamon Menu and access to all my programs! Unfortunately, this defeats the whole object of using KDE Neon, which is to use a nice KDE Plasma desktop.

The way things stand now, I can't do anything more. As I said above, I only installed KDE Neon 4 days ago. I've spent a few hours installing software and themes. Unless someone on here can tell me quickly how to fix it, then I think I may as well just reinstall KDE Neon and start from scratch!

Last call for help!

I seem to have wasted about another three hours trying to sort this out now!.

Some error messages I received while using dpkg from the menu were as follows...

/etc/default/rcS not found (What is this file?)

archive.neon.kde.org could not be resolved (lfailed downloads ots of times! I even connected to my router by LAN cable just in case)

As no one on here has replied, I'm now on the verge of reinstalling KDE Neon.

I had to reinstall KDE Neon and all the software! I hope my Kickstarter menu doesn't disappear again. As I don't know what happened or how to fix it, except by reinstalling KDE Neon, then that would mean me just abandoning KDE Neon altogether!

Install Timeshift and use it.
