Qt 5.13 for Neon 5.16 ?

Fri Aug 30, 2019 8:20 am
Hello. Is there any plans to update Qt version (currently 5.12) to 5.13 in KDE Neon 5.16 repos ?

What's your interest in it?

There's some bugs with how it works with Plasma so we are currently waiting for Qt 5.13.1 which should fix them.

Well, it's a long story ;D

The first reason: the artefacts in the desktop after sleep with nvidia proprietary drivers.
Hovewer there is a simple two solutions:
1) restart plasma (add script to autostart) --- too slow solution
2) add [QtQuickRendererSettings] GraphicsResetNotifications=true to ~/.plasmarc --- elegant and fast solution

But with method #2 I've got another problems, now with feature "Auto disable compositions manager...".
When I run UnrealEngine4 it blocks the composition then plasma freezes (but it still responsive to mouse clicking or keyboard hotkeys, just doesn't redraw)
It seemed to me that this was due to this parameter.

Bug with desktop artefacts was fixed in Qt 5.13. So, I hope that Qt 5.13 will resolve my both issues. So, I tried to use Manjaro Linux with KDE with Qt 5.13. Unfortunally it is not resolves that trouble with plasma freezing (but added more other troubles).

* I really need that feature, this significantly affects performance.
It would be cool if it will be more stable.

So, I returned back to the KDE Neon and now I'm using 3rd method that solves both issues (desktop artefacts and plasma freezing): systemd-service, that restarts plasma after machine woke up (thanks to Manjaro users). It works fast and solves both issues.

Fixed in Plasma 5.17
