I understand that updating KDE Neon is best done by the pkcon commands. I have always used it since I started using Neon.

But here are a couple of features I think pkcon lack (as opposed to apt):

First, when the command pkcon update shows the list of applications that need to be updated it doesn't show the amount of data to be downloaded and the disk space to be used to install those updates - as apt does.

Second, when the list of applications to be updated is a long one pkcon activity indicators overlap the list - as shown in the screenshot below. Also, after pkcon is done with updating Konsole's user line appears overlapping the list. Shouldn't it appear in the clear at the end of the list?

try ucaresystem-core it's simply fantastic. you can run it from both konsole or gui.

Thanks TheBeheader for your reply. I'd very much like such a hassle-free way of updating my system.

However, if you don't mind my asking, have you used this on a KDE Neon setup? Does it work without causing any trouble?

I'm only asking because the Neon FAQ page says pkcon is the recommended way to update the system and asks to avoid apt.

Since Neon is based on Ubuntu and Ubuntu on Debian, I believe ucaresystem-core should work in Neon, too. Just wanted to be sure.

Hi, the last commit of the package in gitHub and Launchpad was released on Jan 2018.

I think that Discover has improved the performance in the last year and I also experienced in pkcon the problem suggested in the firs post, but does not matter at all. When you type yes and enter the process begin without problems. So, why installing a package that is not maintained or updated. Maybe, it has no bugs after the last release in Jan 2018.
Also, thanks for writing about ucaresystem-core because I did know about it.

Yes, j8a, I have also noticed that ucaresystem-core seems to be rather old. Although it installed fine.

Honestly, I have used ucaresystem-core once - just to see what it does and how. And then I got back to pkcon.

I'd still like to see those features in pkcon, though. In future maybe they'll improve it.
