Problem with crashes and icons

Tue Sep 10, 2019 8:16 pm
Hello KDE users
Im new to this forum so sorry if this is the wrong place to post for this.
Ive been having a few problems with kde for a while and so far ive just ignored it but now its super f**** annoying
so first of all, no animations work essentially. I have wiggle windows on and other task switching animations which do not work whatsoever - not that this is so urgent but it might help some of you diagnose problems
The icons on the taskbar have some sort of fuzzy thing on them
https://imgur.com/eh2JJYp
as you can see some of the logos are fuzzy whereas some of them arent

My computer some times crashes fully when task switching which means that I need to be force shut down my laptop.
Kwin_x11 crashes like 5-6 times an hour. I searched up a fix on this and apparently it was to go virtual desktops -> turn off some setting which didnt exist on my system so that wouldnt work
here is the log from kwin_x11 crashes
Code: Select all
con theme "gnome" not found. ( ive tried using different icon themes, this error seems the disappear but the rest are still prevalent)

Latest as in 19.04 or latest LTS? Would be nice to know the exact Plasma version you use (check KInfoCenter for this). Also what changes did you do when these crashes started to happen.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Hello,
Thank you for a reply
My ubuntu version is 18.04, sorry thought this was latest, found through lsb_release -a
and my plasma version is KDE neon 5.16.5
I havnt really changed anything because I was unsure of what to change, except random stuff like themes and desktop options which didnt really change anything

so you are using Ubuntu with Plasma, why not use Kubuntu right away?

Oh, you mean you are not actually using Ubuntu but Neon? Why didn't you say so from the start? Which exact Neon?

No, absolutely not, Neon is made by the KDE Community, just using the Ubuntu base and kernel underneath for practical reasons.

It's all a bit of a learning curve, isn't it, especially for new users - me included.

Sorry, no, not my speciality, I let the Neon devs sort this out.

Did you make a bug report? If not, I strongly recommend you do, install debugging symbols for Plasma and its dependencies first, and submit a backtrace to https://bugs.kde.org

FWIW: crashes should always be reported to the bug tracker, the forum is not the best place to handle things like this, and it will get faster attention by the developers.
