Laptop shutdown problem

Thu Sep 19, 2019 9:38 pm
Hello All,

This is my setup:
Using KDE Neon on Lenovo Y740 with external monitor

Here are the symptoms:
Open the lid to press power button then close it and the laptop boots up fine on the external monitor.
Selecting shutdown with the lid closed puts laptop in either sleep or hibernate mode. (I have no idea which.) When the lid is opened, the laptop comes out of whatever mode to the login screen.
Selecting shutdown with the lid open works fine.
For a while, the laptop would reboot when shutdown selected no matter if the lid was open or closed. The only way to shut the laptop down was to open the lid and hold down the power button. Now it is back to sleep or hibernate.

Tried all settings in Power Management in both AC and battery areas to no avail.

Other than this issue, the laptop and KDE Neon work great.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Rick.

Edit: Read somewhere to try console shutdown -h now. Worked fine. The issue still persists.
