every time i start my laptop it tells me that updates are available. however when i select "update" the discover program crashes.
its asking me to make a crash report and install debug symbols, which i tried but unsuccessful this happens every time. i can not trigger update manually because it will also crash how do i get out of this mess? |

I am having this problem, too. However, if I run 'pkcon refresh', I get:
Refreshing cache [=========================] Loading cache [=========================] Downloading packages [=========================] Running [=========================] Finished [=========================] Fatal error: E: Repository 'http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/lts bionic InRelease' changed its 'Origin' value from 'user/lts bionic' to 'neon' E: Repository 'http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/lts bionic InRelease' changed its 'Label' value from 'KDE neon - User Edition (LTS)' to 'KDE neon - Plasma LTS Edition' I presume this is the problem that is also causing Discover to crash. Any ideas on how to solve this gratefully received. Thanks and regards |

I get
root@velikiHP:/home/paul/Downloads# pkcon refresh Refreshing cache [=========================] Loading cache [=========================] Refreshing software list [=========================] Downloading packages [=========================] Running [=========================] Finished [ ] (0%) Do you want to allow installing of unsigned software? [N/y] repeating for ever it seems. If I say N The unsigned software will not be installed. [=========================] Loading cache [=========================] Fatal error: user declined interaction I don't know how to interpret this. Anyone? |

Pretty clear:
Because 'no' was selected here:
To see what is really happening, you will have to use apt update and apt full-upgrade. Don't worry, nothing will 'splode using it. But you will see the actual error messages , if any. At least you will know if the updates are actually installed properly. I saw someone have this error but it was back in 2017. There, it seemed to actually have installed the items. Not sure what made the endless looping stop, I'll guess a reboot.
