Before updating to plasma 5.7.0 i used to switch off the automatic update applet (by right-clicking 'show icon icon' on the task bar, selecting the 'configure sysyem try' and taking the tick out of the 'updates' box) but the 'updates' option has now been embedded in the 'entries' section.

Thanks

are you sure you mean Plasma 5.7.0 and not 5.17.0?

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

There is currently no UI way now :( .

Instead of an applet, this is now a process that autostarts. Hopefully a way of toggling that autostart as an option will come.

This is reported in this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413053
