how to upgrade kde neon to latest version

From which version do you want to upgrade ?

In general pckon ("sudo pckon refresh && sudo pckon -y update") is your friend.
Discovery is a GUI tool to manage updates.
Ich you want to upgrade the distro (Ubuntu) version KDE Neon is based on, look at "apt dist-upgrade"

You already should be in the latest Neon version, automatically.

As Neon has a 'rolling' Plasma, etc, you always have the latest versions of those, if you are updating regularly.
The underlying OS (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) is also up to date, as long as you are doing the regular updates.

At some point after the next Ubuntu LTS is released (20.04, in April), Neon will offer a prompt to upgrade the whole OS to the new LTS.

Did you already upgraded Neon distro successfully? My two attempts to upgrade Kubuntu went wrong. Is it reliable with Neon ?

I run Kubuntu on my PC and Neon on my laptop. I have always upgraded Kubuntu with success, with only a dead hdd breaking the string gong back to 13.04.
I upgraded my Neon from 16.04 to 18.04 without issue as well.

I'm still waiting for this, I thought after the official Ubuntu release this would work, but it has been released and `do-release-upgrade` doesn't net me anything. Mildly disappointing.

Neon will not be upgraded until after Kubuntu has it's first point release, likely in July. This is a precautionary measure by KDE developers.

My system just told me that it can be upgraded. I tried the usual way, but I am stuck at the exact point that this discussion is about:

Checking for a new Ubuntu release
Please install all available updates for your release before upgrading.


But:

No packages require updating to newer versions.


How do I solve this riddle?

I have the same problem.

Perhaps it's confused by libodbc1, which technically has an upgrade but can't be upgraded because it conflicts with its i386 version? Pretty sure that's normal for Neon, however. It doesn't even appear in Discover or pkcon. I'd expect the upgrader to work around it.

EDIT: Looking at the source of do-release-upgrade, it seems to me that my guess was correct; the script checks apt for upgradable packages.

I'm not sure what the safest way to work around this would be, however. According to aptitude, it's a conflict with the 32-bit version of wine:

In the end I let it remove the conflicting package and upgraded. Standard upgrading issues (re-enable ppas, find broken packages, etc.) and so far so good.

I have a similar issue on KDE Neon:

"Checking for a new neon release
Please install all available updates for your release before upgrading."

But I've installed all available updates.

You should get a panel notification to upgrade at reboot/re-login though. I did - yesterday, on User.
