Hello all. After testing KDE Neon on my HDD for a while and loving it, I've decided I want to install it on the SSD of the same laptop. When I try and install using USB, when I arrive at "Disk Setup", only the HDD appears as a selection. What might be causing this?

For some background, I am planning on using Windows on the HDD, and did that installation first- so currently, Windows is installed on both the SSD and HDD (not sure if this is relevant).

Is the SSD mounted? You can't install anything on a mounted partition.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I tried to dismount the SSD by accessing windows via the HDD, launching the command prompt as an admin, and executing "mountvol C: /d", with C: being the SSD. However upon rebooting and attempting to install KDE Neon from the flashdrive, it still only had my HDD as an option in the dropdown.

Is this the proper way to unmount, or do you think there may be a different problem entirely?

Edit: An idea that has popped to mind, is it possible to simply open Windows on my SSD and then install KDE Neon over the windows (thus overwriting/erasing Windows on the SSD)?

Can you boot into Windows off the SSD and in the control panel power options disable "fast startup" and shutdown and try the neon installation again?

What make and model, and type of SSD?
What computer?
is the bios set the use RST/raid for the drive - this does not support Linux.
Some ssd controllers, particularly on some nvme drives, need some boot tweaks for them to not time out, and thus not be detected.

I tried this, but the only option still was the HDD.

SSD is INTEL SSDPEKNW512G8, computer is an ASUS VivoBook 14. As for the RST/raid, can you please help explain which settings you recommend I set (ie, do I want to enable or disable RAID in BIOS, etc.)?

Hello everyone!
For quite a while I was interested in installing KDE Neon on my machine. I've been trying several other Distributions with KDE, Neon is the most suitable for me. However, the same issue, that my SSD does not appear in the list for the installation. I have and ssd and HDD in my laptop and the the Installation wizard and the partition managers does not see the SSD in the system, only HDD. The issue is only with KDE NEON. I've tried several distributions. After restarting the system form Live CD the SSD drive does not appear in the UEFI Settings. Only if I switch off the system and then star again in will appear (in the UEFI settings), but not in the distro.
Any other distribution with KDE or any other DE find my SSD perfectly fine. Currently running Linux Mint 20.1 Cinnamon Edition.
How can I resolve the problem?
Here is the link to my laptop: https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp ... l/32320682
And this is my SSD: https://www.micron.com/products/ssd/bus ... ck-1as1aab

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my PC with Crucial P5 nvme. No problems with other distros that uses KDE (kubuntu, manjaro KDE,...)
I really would like to install neon but I dont know why and there isnt much info on the internet about this issue.

I had the same issue on my laptop. I resolved the issue via a firmware setting. My disk would not show up when booting from a live disc/USB despite being able to boot into Windows. I had to make sure the disk was using AHCI in my BIOS/UEFI settings instead of something like IDE or RAID.

Hope this helps.
