Hello everyone,
Problem recording audio. Using my internal speaker, or a headset connected to bluetooth, or the same headset connected via a jack, or a new microphone connected via usb: NO audio is captured via any software: if I open a sound recorder, or an application to "display" sound like ingot, I see nothing when recording. I tried on the windows partition and had no problem. It used to work fine, I used to be able to skype flawlessly. I have tried many different things and searched for countless hours, with no results so far. If I could help and provide any extra information, please ask. Here are some info about my system, if that can help: KDE neon User Edition 5.18 # aplay --list-devices **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC256 Analog [ALC256 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 9: HDMI 3 [HDMI 3] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 10: HDMI 4 [HDMI 4] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 # lshw *-multimedia description: Multimedia audio controller product: Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1f.3 bus info: pci@0000:00:1f.3 version: 21 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=32 resources: irq:130 memory:df2a8000-df2abfff memory:df280000-df28ffff computer : acer swift 3 SF315 |

On my KDE Neon box I have found that even if I set Pulseaudio to use my USB microphone when I try to record audio it will still use the built-in-audio mic input. Only by going to Pavucontrol and looking under the Applications tab to see open audio streams was I able to figure out what seems to be going on. When I looked under the applications tab I found that the recording application, in my case it was Chrome, was still using the built-in-audio for the Chrome "Recordstream". From there I was able to set the USB mic to be used for this stream, but obviously this isn't ideal and isn't persistent.
Not sure what's causing it, but I don't have this issue on my Linux Mint (Cinnamon) or Fedora (Gnome) installs. |

In the System Settings -> Hardware -> Audio -> Advanced Tab, select the option
"Automatically switch all running streams when a new output becomes available".
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Normaly it is very easy. I do this here with USB Webcammicro, internal micro, bluetooth micro. Everything is working fine. You can config this live with the speakers icon in the plasmapanel. central and per running application. Have you tried this?

Thank you! Unfortunately, this doesn't solve the problem I described in my post, but maybe it will help others. |
