Hi,
I am using KDEneon now for about two years on different machines. With the actual Versions (starting 2020) I realized that they seem to depend strongly on UEFI. Two installations which I updated stalled during boot. I could solve the problem by activating UEFI and setting up a respective efi-partition during manual partitioning. However, on one machine with a ASUS M3N78-EM this is not possible - the BIOS is not UEFI compliant, only possible in BIOS legacy mode, no updates available. The machine is equipped with NVIDIA-cards and third-party driver installation is activated. I tried several times to install KDEneon on a Samsung 860 EVO (SATA) - never succeeded booting (even not in recovery mode). It stops during boot after the following services:
The boot from the USB-Stick (in order to install) works fine. As well as the installation of Lubuntu 19.10, which boots without any problems. However, after trying to install KDEneon also the Lubuntu boot is broken (I am using the same boot-partition with 1GB) Any advices or helps? Thanks in advance Peter

Hi,
after several additional tries I figured out that it is not related to the non UEFI property of my board. An installation WITHOUT the THIRD PARTY drivers did the job and I received a booting and working installation. However, I want to run mainly blender on this machine and therefore I want to use the CUDA properties of my graphic card, which strictly depends on the NVIDIA-drivers. Actually I am searching the net for solutions to install KDEneon in the way I need - with nvidia drivers activated... The session info gives me Type=x11 so I can already ignore the wayland issues and look for the proper driver for my hardware combination (two monitors):

Hi,
Ok the topic is finished - it turned out, that my hardware combination is not supported anymore. The key-issue is the fact, that x-server and nvidia-driver-340 do not work together anymore. The 340-driver was the last one supporting the GEFORCE 8300 (on-board) as well as the GEFORCE GT-730 (PCIe). Since I am somehow fixed to KDE I tried Kubuntu, Lubuntu, KDEneon and OpenSuse Tumbleweed - always including as well as without "third party drivers" (and post installation of nvidia-driver) in combination with xorg-server and wayland. However, there seems to be a small light somewhere: I figured out that the nvidia-drivers are 32-bit only - my installations have allways been 64-bit. But I do not want to experiment with 32-bit environments in addition ![]() So issue solved - by "it's not working at all" |
