I need a Chinese input method (mainly cangjie5) for Neon. Ibus already came installed so I am trying to use it (used it once on Xubuntu and it was fine, although I prefer fcitx). My problem is, ibus-cangjie does not input any Chinese characters at all, it's all latin letters and I do not know why. I toggle it on and off and it is all the same. For example: typing h + q + i was supposed to input 我, but all I get is, you guessed it, "hqi" instead.
My guess is that I need to add Chinese (traditional and simplified) to "Regional Settings" >> "Languages" alongside English (please, correct me if I'm wrong) but I just can't. When I click on "Add languages..." button, a menu-list with a lot of languages pops up, but when I click on any of the languages to select it, the menu simply disappears before I can even get to click on "Add" and it is annoying. I can't add languages and my Chinese input method does not input Chinese. Can anyone help me fix these issues? I could not find much useful info on google and it is killing me. At this point I am resorting to Google Translate every f***ing time I need to type Chinese. Not practical. |

Here is the procedure I used to set up my wife's Neon for Chinese input, hopefully it is complete.
Currently running KDE Neon 5.22.5 and 5.19.4 (with Windows 10 in a VM); migrated from Linux Mint 17.3
