Several days ago an update was made, presumably to SDDM, that caused system logins to fail. Specifically this is only for graphical logins on the SDDM screen. I have tried updating via pkcon refresh and pkcon update from the console but this did not resolve the SDDM login issue.

One thing I noticed is that while attempting to solve this issues via edits to /etc/sddm.conf I found that the original breeze theme was uninstalled and could not be reinstalled due to dependency issues.

As a workaround, I did a clean install of developer edition, then from the command line I ran the following command:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-mark hold sddm

This subsequently prevented the software update(s) that rendered login inoperative.
