Yes, it's broken in recent Neon versions. It was broken in 5.18.5 too. In my case, it was already configured, and if so, it continues to work, but you can't change the settings using the UI.
It does work in Kubuntu 20.04, though, with Plasma 5.18.5, KDE frameworks 5.71.0, and Qt 5.14.2 (which I grabbed from the Groovy repo). I don't have any idea what broke it in Neon. |

Actually it installs in Kubuntu 20.04 and works, but only if reloading the thermal sensors after each reboot (reloading, not resetting). But I moved to Neon as Plasma on Kubuntu 20.04 is amnesic with lot of desktop settings, while Neon isn't. Only this widget still doesn't work.
BTW, I also used in 18.04 Jupiter to set computer in the powersave mode, to avoid overheating. Jupiter still works in Neon based on 18.04, but doesn't in Kubuntu 20.04. I opened a thread in Kubuntu Forums and this issue was solved in two ways: making possible to install Jupiter, and/or moving to indicator-cpufreq with getting read of it's amnesia issue (deleting the ondemand default setting). Being in the same vein (temperatures), I post here the link. Hope this won't bother anybody in the two forums, but if it will, I'll edit this post and delete the link. Here it is: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php/76978-permanent-settings-for-indicator-cpufreq Personally I moved to indicator-cpufreq, as the second function of Jupiter, switching displays, was beautifully solved in newest Plasmas (Fn+F?). If the Thermal Monitor widget issue raised here will be solved, I'll be happy with Neon.

Rica,
The thing with having to reload the temp source at system start is a known problem with the thermal monitor widget. If you look in the Github discussion for the plugin, there are some posts that describe a few changes in one of the files that you can make that will fix the issue: https://github.com/kotelnik/plasma-applet-thermal-monitor/pull/54 That will fix the reloading issue, on 20.04 or Neon, but not the crashing Plasmashell issue in Neon when you try to change the settings. |

Good news!
A Redditor has come up with a fix for this: https://old.reddit.com/r/kdeneon/comments/gkyuij/attempting_to_configure_thermal_monitor_widget/ I can confirm that the change fixes the crash! I just tested it, and it works well in Neon (5.19.1) User. |

Thanks albenson,
Indeed this patch fixed the crash problem, but didn't fix all the widget issues. I can now open the configuration window, and it shows content on all tabs except for Temperature: this tab is empty, only the title, nor sensors, neither the GUI to add and rename them. Checked the thermal sensors and were installed by default "libsensors4" and "iio-sensor-proxy" (the last one I see it for the first time here in Neon, it wasn't in Kubuntu 18.04). Like in Kubuntu 18.04 "lm-sensors" wasn't installed, and Kubuntu 18.04 worked fine without it. Tried installing "lm-sensors" on Neon but nothing changed, so uninstalled it back. Note, that after each change I reboot (in case sensors reading was done only at reboot), but this gave nothing. An observation to the patch: all lines need a tab to properly align in the code (but did work the same without this tab either). The computer I am testing distributions on, before installing them to other computers, is an old lazy notebook: 2xAMD C-50 cpu, with AMD Palm gpu, and 4GB RAM. Worked well with Kubuntu 18.04 (although very lazy but no crashes, bad videos but excellent flac sound). Still works very well with Neon (even little bit faster, and still no crashes except for bugs). Running now on Neon 18.04 with Plasma 5.19.2, Frameworks 5.71.0, Qt 5.14.2, Kernel 5.3.0-61-generic, 64-bit. Any help with the empty Temperature tab in the configuration window of the Thermal Monitor widget? Thanks. PS: Forgot to mention that I also tried to replace (copy/paste) the bugged "ConfigTemperatures.qml" file in Neon with the working one in Kubuntu 18.04, but in vain (Plasma was still crashing).

Same problem as Rica.
Fixed the crashes with the workaround but the actual widget is still not functioning. Temperature tab is completely empty and switching between the other ones cause an overlapping of windows. And on top of that no temperature is shown. Installed again lm-sensors but no luck. At this stage is absolutely useless for me. Always been my very first widget install on my kde ![]() |

Checked again the Thermal Monitor widget, looking for improvements, and had an excellent surprise to see its "Fix" version: WORKS PERFECTLY!
Super!
