With that cleared up, can any of you confirm. neon with Plasma 5.19.4, can actually log into Wayland session or is it just something specific to my system? Whenever I log in, it just returns to the SDDM after a few minutes. I need to know if it's worth creating its own topic and possibly bug report or a fresh install. |

Did anybody know where i can download the final ISO? Under https://neon.kde.org/download is only 18.04 User edit, and on this Downloadlocation from the first post of this thread is nothing, emty.
Thanks. |

I thought that they had fixed this, it was happening with a previous ISO build recently. Seems something is borked again.

My install of neon-user-20200820-0945.iso was great until I tried updates
authentication dialog would not accept my root password at first, I thought I may have screwed up what I thought was a valid password and so did a fresh install... but no, same result I cannot do any root related tasks!

I assume you tried the testing or unstable versions? If so, Install Neon User (the only one that works), run updates with Discover, logout and login. Edit neon.list as above (tested with unstable but testing should be the same), run pkcon refresh, then update with Discover, it will complain, so logout. Log back in (it will take a while ~1min) and re-run updates with Discover (as it should still be there, if not Ctrl-alt-F2 and run plasma-discover, then switch back with Ctrl-alt-F1). Logout and login and all should be well. My guess is this is a Calamares bug and Neon user is on the previous version.

Oh... my earlier guess was that User edition was on an lower version of Calamares that worked. ie lower than Unstable / Testing because Calamares has a bug #1489 that makes the user password null (ie root actions work with no password). But on my trial 3-4 days ago null password didn't work so I'm making a bit of a leap.
Anyway, User edition worked back then so I just changed the repos. If User edition is now also borked then maybe it's got the same Calamares version (IF I'm right). I contacted Nate Graham and ha said: "This is a known issue with the new installer which is being resolved as we speak. The but installer itself has already been fixed, and I believe it's being rolled out to the Neon ISOs right now." Email received at 17:24 GMT

This looks to have been fixed, a new ISO has been uploaded, so the download link gets you the 20.04 version now.

I've just downloaded the User Edition and the sudo password is fixed now, I don't know about the other versions but they have a similar time stamp so probably??
Edit: I tested unstable edition today Saturday 22/08/20 at 11:20 GMT and root password problem is gone there too.

Does that mean download the new version and install. First reinstalled the old one because the upgrade didn't work. Now done the upgrade, then two updates and now let's go again. Aren't the developers going to release an update and not reinstall?
Windows 10 has a testing team, volunteer, you could emulate them and do the same. It is not clear to me how everything works ok in Manjar and Arch |

This update to the ISOs was to fix an installation problem only (although I've noticed a couple of mild visual tweaks to grub). Updates are available to your system and written to a new ISO at the same time - you'll get them as soon as they are available and there is no need to reinstall. I'm on unstable and I get an update every day. If you're on user edition I don't know how often this happens.

@robgriff444
I have Arch, Manjaro testig branch and update every day so I know the problem. As for I have a problem ovtr (GUI traceroute) does not work, it complains about root and ACL and it worked in the previous version Neon and Ubuntu 18.04 My Neon is plasma 5.19.4 and base is Ubuntu 20.04., this version is from upgrade clean version 5.19.4 and ubuntu 20.04. I don't know how to fix the problem via a new .iso file without doing a reinstallation |
