My current Neon setup is as follows:
KDE Plasma Version 5.19.4 KDE Frameworks Version 5.72.0 QT Version 5.14.2 Kernel Version 4.15.0-112-generic This is 64 bit on an Intel i7 with an old Gforce GT730 video card. Everything seems to be running OK. I just got an update notification (Aug 01/2020) I use Synaptic to do my updates. I downloaded the updates, then when I went to apply the changes, in the popup window it said To be DOWNGRADED ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt python3-distupgrade ubuntu-release-upgrader-core I'm not sure why there's a downgrade.. Will I break anything if I follow through? |

Neon ist designed to use Synaptic or Apt to Update your System. It can break everyhing. For Updates use only pkcon or discover.

While Neon strongly recommends using pkcon, and it is a great tool to use, it is not true at all that apt or Synaptic will break one's system. The incorrect usage of apt can leave some packages not upgraded, and Neon have actually added a warning when the wrong apt command is used. pkcon run on a Debian-like system is actually using apt/dpkg to do the actual work. pkcon has no useful way to debug problems like this, so apt is still useful to help find the problem.
These are safe to allow to downgrade. They are actually all related to Ubuntu's distro upgrade tools. Neon has their own modified version of these packages, to keep us from getting Ubuntu's distro release notifications etc. Ubuntu just upgraded these packages, so Neon forced a 'downgrade' to the last Neon version of these, and likely we will soon see new, modified versions of the three packages

Great, thanks for the replies..
I ran the pkcon commands and the aforementioned packages were still downgraded, but nothing broke and everything is running fine. |
