I have just installed the OS upgrade. Now only the external monitor works.

When doing the upgrade I had both the laptop screen and the external monitor active as that is the normal configuration I use most of the time.

During startup the laptop's primary screen lights up briefly during BIOS and then a few of the OS start-up messages appears. Then the screen goes dark and only the external screen works.

If I restart the laptop with the xternal screen unplugged then after those initial startup messages the screen goes black and the computer is not usable. Plugging in the external monitor at that point works.

My suspicion lies with Bumblebee, nVidia drivers, and related bits of software. I don't even know what those bits of software are so need some help.

As a first step I removed the following packages
bumblebee
bumblebee-nvidia
bbswitch-dkms

I then rebooted. Both displays now works correctly.

But now I have no nvidia prime indicator nor the ability to switch between intel/nVidia GPUs.

So how do I correctly get that working?

For now I am using prime-switch (CLI based tool) and a reboot when I want to switch between the intel and nvidia GPUs. I have in the past managed to install the wrong combination of packages causing issues with the gpu switching and indicators.
