I've just installed Neon 20.04 and tried to start up plasma with wayland. After a few seconds of a black screen I go back to the login screen. I've pasted a wayland session log but can't quite make heads or tails out of it. When logged in with Xorg, I can start a wayland session and start apps within that session so I think I've got everything installed that's needed. Can anyone help?

I think I've narrow it down to the problem having to do with the following lines from the previously posted log:
dbus-daemon[3720]: [session uid=1001 pid=3720] Activated service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1' failed: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1 dbus-update-activation-environment: warning: error sending to systemd: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1 Still trying to figure out if this is a wrong configuration or if I'm missing dependencies. -Greg |

I'm affected as well, it's from the 5.19.4 updates. Bhushan Shah on Matrix said this is the relevant bug report which has been updated to mention Arch apparently got it fixed.
This year was supposed to get Wayland up to speed, so I'd really hope such breaking bugs don't actually make it live... But then again, this is 2020. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

A few system updates later and the problem seems to be resolve. I'm not sure which update fixed the issue but I can now log into a Wayland session.
