Maybe this is issue for Bugzilla, I write here in case someone knows already the solution.
After the latest update of today 17th Aug, the desktop became black, I can only see the mouse pointer and krunner crashes continuosly if I invoke it (Alt+F2) and try to digit some name.
Only kwallet works and asks to me to enter the password for Kontact.
I tried to install again the plasma-desktop by console from a recovery session, but nothing happened.
Also, if I click the physical shutdown button, I can get the login/restart/shutdown screen and I'm able to restart or log out.

Does anybody have any solution for this problem?

I am having an issues which may be related - in my case screen lock causes a screen that cannot be interacted with. Then if I also close the lid and re-open it, I have a black screen with a mouse cursor.

The work-arround in my case is to switch to a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F2), log in, and kill the kscreenlocker_greeter process. Then when switching back to the GUI the screen is working properly.

I (hopefully) solved following these (old) instructions:
Ctrl+Alt+F2, then

Code: Select all

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade --fix-missing


it found 152 packages to upgrade. Then

Code: Select all

sudo apt full-upgrade

I also gave the command

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

pkcon update


Then reboot and my desktop finally reappeared
