The place I'm staying at has a LAN with wired Internet. The router is password protected. When I connect the computer to the switch that connects to the router, the wired network icon appears with spinning blue circle indicating that the computer is attempting to connect to the network, but the connection never completes. Browsers say that they are unable to reach the network. Other computers that connect to the switch are able to connect to the Internet. It's not a cabling issue.
1) Is the password necessary to connect, or is that a router admin password only? 2) I have tried to connect to the router via IP address (192.168.1.254), but that shows "Problem Loading Page". (I know the IP address from the other computers, which can connect to the router and are asked for the password.) Perhaps there's a filter on the router that's preventing me from gaining access. 3) i can tether my phone to the computer, but it is still not possible to access the router via the IP address. 4) Is there a manual way to add a wired network configuration? Where would one enter the password in that case? Thanks for any help. There is. In "Connections" settings page, "Wired connection" option, "802.1x Security" tab. |

I've got a bit more information about the problem now. The computer connects to the Internet, but I can't browse on Firefox or Chrome. I can ping 8.8.8.8 (Google) and browse using Tor, but I can't use other browsers. I think the computer has somehow cached my old network settings and won't refresh to the new settings.
I have tried: - Replacing the old Firefox profile in the Home directory, unsuccessfully (Firefox is my main browser) - Clearing the cache on both Firefox and Chrome - Running sudo service network-manager restart No luck with any of this. Any ideas?
