No startup sound in KDE neon 20.04

Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:02 am
Hello! It's such an honor for me to post here for the first time. Loving KDE Plasma so far.

So, I had a weird problem that I couldn't find a solution for. I have the login sound activated on my computer, but it never plays whenever I login to my account. It's supposed to play the long startup sound but it never plays. I tried to create a script that'd do the same thing, but nothing changed. I suspect that it's because the sound driver doesn't start until I'm completely logged in. This is extreamly annoying. I really wish to find an answer here.

Thank you all in advance.
Regards,
David :D

This problem has been around for awhile in KDE Neon. https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=157088 I recall someone telling me the startup script does not execute because of security issues not being established before login is complete so scripts cannot safely be executed. I cannot find the link to that explanation but will post if I find it.

In System Settings > Notifications > Applications > Plasma Workspace > Configure Events > Login I also specify to log to a file and that does not occur either.

Migrated from Linux Mint 17.3/18.3 KDE to KDE neon User Edition.

Well that really sucks :( This is what I hate about KDE in general. It seems a bit more paranoid about security than other Linux distros, causing a lot of problems.

Here's the answer I got when I reported the bug. I have since ceased reporting bugs. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407835

See Comment #3 and following comments on this bug report to see why I do not report bugs anymore. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352976

Ugh, KDE might be an extreamly good DE, but their Customer Support is beyond bad. I tell ya, I've heard many people complain.

Running MX 21.3 KDE and I can not find where to setup login sounds and effects. Some on the post directions to us to a directory that it doesn't have. so may have to go back to MX21 xfce or linuxLite6.2.

Sorry I found it , Settings>(left pane) PERSONAL >Notifications>(Right pane) Plasma workspace> (Right side panel click on Configure events. Look through list scrolling to Login and click and apply.
