Hi,
The KDE Neon iso image 20200827-0945 fails to boot on my machine (a ThinkPad E550). I have verified that the USB sticks I have been using (two different ones, one from Toshiba and another from SanDisk) boot with other isos. I have tried switching to other virtual consoles, but the computer displays nothing but a blank screen although the light on the Toshiba USB stick flashes away repeatedly (the SanDisk doesn't have an LED). I've also tried with both UEFI Only enabled (no CSM), and both UEFI and BIOS with CSM enabled, as well as writing the image with ddrescue, dd and RosaImageWriter (the latter recommended by KDE Neon). EDIT: I forgot to mention that I also tried the Testing Edition, with the same result. Below is my dmesg in case that helps:

I downloaded user edition last night and it was fine on my desktop (I always use Rosa), I'll try again now.
Edit: No matter, mine's the same version as yours.

I "solved" this problem by downloading Distrowatch's archived torrent of 20200723-1119 (thank you Distrowatch), but as far as I know, the problem with the image listed above persists.

Hi!
I have had a similar problem since KDE Neon 20.04 was released. I think I've tried every version of the ISO and I couldn't boot from the USB. I must say that all this is with the UEFI mode activated. If I change it in the BIOS to Legacy mode, the USB stick works without problem. Another thing I must add, Kde Neon 18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04 boot correctly from the USB with the UEFI mode enabled. |

ubaygd: What machine do you have? What did you write the ISO with? If just Rosa, try something else mainstream like etcher.
This should be a bug report if we can narrow it down and it''s not just isolated cases.

I just downloaded latest Neon user, wrote it with Rosa and it booted in UEFI on my ASUS motherboard so there is something else at play here. I suggest you make a bug report with KDE at http://bugs.kde.org and maybe raise something with Lenovo?

I'll do that (and maybe mention that from the KDE Neon website and even kde.org, the bug tracker isn't easy to find).
Thanks. |

Hi jeffrollin, could you please tell me where you found this archived torrent, or even better, post the link? Thanks I have the same problem as you have: since a few days I cannot boot anymore on two different machines (Lenovo Thinkpad T595 and Lenovo Thinkbook 15-ILL), both times after upgrading to Neon 20200827 . Similarly, also in my case I get stuck in the Grub command line when trying to boot from USB pen drive. Disabling UEFI secure boot seems not to change anything. Kubuntu 20.04 boots properly from USB, so this problem is specific to KDE Neon. |
