Can't change wallpaper

Thu Oct 08, 2020 12:27 am
I am a new user. I've spent the last few days learning how to setup KDE and I now have it looking and acting almost exactly as I want it. Much nicer than Gnome. But, I have a problem changing my wall paper. The applet tells me that I need to select a layout before I can make changes. But the dropdown for the layout is blank. How can I fix this? Please help. This is the one thing I have not been able to figure out on my own. Other than this, I am a happy new Neon user.

Hello!

(I do not use facebook, so I do not see what you've postet there)

Selecting a layout means: Rightclick on a free area on the desktop and choose Configure Desktop. On top of the settings page, there is a combo box for the layout where you can select workspace or folder view. Below you then can set up the picture you want to use.

If there is nothing to see, you probably messed the permissions up. You can search for those using
Code: Select all
find ~ ! -user $USER -ls
. If there is no output the permissions are correct. Else you have to rechange ownage with
Code: Select all
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER ~

If there is still no possibility to change anything, you may enable the debug output using `kdebugsettings` and look for error messages concerning the settings.
