Two weeks ago I wanted to delete an icon from my taskbar. That worked, but after logging in the icon is back.
Now I've deleted icons with the mouse, and then edited the kglobalshortcutsrc file. Logged out, the icons are back, and the lines are back in this file. Adding objects works. The desktop has the same behavior with the widgets. Userrights are ok. KDE NEON 5.20.0 Any idea?

How did you edit this file? You must use kwriteconfig to change settings while logged in or use a non graphical login. Are there any errors in journalctl which could lead us to the problem? |

In the log i see that if i delete some things:

What kind of «thing» do you try to delete? Is it «unpin» an application int the icon only task manager? Another plasmoid? Default one? Downloaded? You must provide more information about what do you exactly want to do, how did you try it and what were the results.
The error you provided is about an old bug which seems to live on: QTBUG-56893. It could be related as it is showing a problem on ChangeProperty (what you probably want in case of unpinning or similar). |

Any icon/application or plasmanoid can't deleted. If i logged in i can go for example on an pint application, or an Desktopicon, or an miniprogram. Klick that app, delete it. Ok it looks fine. But if i logged in again, everything is there again. If i delete things directly on the CMD with root and during this time I am logged out as my user, all things an lines in the configurationfiles are back again after next login.
How i can use "kwriteconfig"? I tested something like this:
Wrong syntax... i've also deleted this: ".local/share/kactivitymanagerd". But nothing. The problem is that I don't even know which file to edit. Very thanks and Best Regards ![]() |

kwriteconfig:
Assuming a config file name ~/.config/mykde.conf with content
you can change whatever with
After both lines it would look like
Concerning your problem: Can you post the output of ls -lha ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc && cat ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc? |

Your config-file seems to be okay. I expected some more hidden panels or stuff like this, but there are only some minmal double entries which are not fatal at all as I could see. They all should be removable with the default mouse actions.
What about your graphics card and driver? Did you have any issues with it? Next test: Start Konsole/Yakuake with `journalctl -f` which will follow the journals output and delete again. There will be a lot of errors and warnings, the important lines ae those after removing the icon/plasmoid. If there is not enough output, use `kdebugsettings` enabling debug for plasmashell and watch the ~/.xsession-errors-file. |

If i deleted an icon, is see this in the log:
In the xsession-errors in this time is nothing. Graphicscarddriver ist also ok. What i have to delete if i would like to reset Deskop and Panel? (in the worstcase) |

The only thing worth mentioning here is
which tells us that there is a notifications sound defined which is not found. The deprecated warnings are for developers and say «This works for now, but there are updated functions you shold asap as the old ones will be removed in future releases.» Deleting files is one way to get a working setup but this could have a lot of side-effects you don't want. The easiest would be to remove the panel and add a new one via GUI. Rightclick to edit panel, rightclick the panel again and choose «remove panel (Alt+d, Alt+r)». Then rightclick the desktop and choose «add panel → default panel». |

Wow, sooooo crazy. I had two main default panels. After delete one, everything was working fine. Very strange. So now only the desktop does not let me delete something. Do you also have idea for it?
![]() ![]() Very thanks again! |

Do you use the folder view or desktop containment as layout? The folder layout basically depends on the file permissions of the containing folder while the desktop layout is again a containment plasmoid as the panel.

That is basically the same as the panel. In your posted configuration the desktop is the containment[37] section.
That is where some doublettes may cause problems, like the nvidia-status-applet (the biggest entry, one cannot miss). Try to remove the applet(s) with kwriteconfig5, it has a --delete option. Double check before pressing enter may save your desktops life ![]() |
