Hi,

Trying to switch from Fedora.

Not sure what's the issue but after clean install of latest Neon on a new laptop it pops this screen out of nowhere every few minutes Asking which display to use.

https://ibb.co/3vFBGzw
Never mind what I choose it comes back every few mibs

Nothing is connected to the laptop, not even power cord.

How do I make it stop? :)

Thanks

I am experiencing this issue as well, but on an existing install.

I installed all the updates in Discover yesterday, and after rebooting, Plasma seemed a bit messed up. The login screen was fine, aside from the cursor not appearing. However, once I logged in, the taskbar appeared, but it was completely blank. It just looked like a flat dark gray bar at the bottom of the screen. Some notifications appeared on the bottom right, but they were also completely blank. My cursor was invisible (or just not there at all, I don't really know). There was no desktop background. Neither a reboot nor a complete power off + power on fixed the issue. I was able to boot using the recovery kernel and it's working fine for the most part, but the screen-switcher UI keeps popping up randomly. Also, my screen brightness controls don't work while using the recovery kernel.

Just to be clear, trying to boot up using the normal kernel always results in the almost-blank Plasma issue.

My laptop is a 2020 Asus Vivobook. Info from the System Settings app (taken while using the recovery kernel):

Operating System: KDE neon 5.20
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0
Qt Version: 5.15.1
Kernel Version: 5.4.0-54-generic
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 8 × AMD Ryzen 7 3700U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
Memory: 17.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: llvmpipe

I've checked for updates on Discover, I've run
Code: Select all
pkcon refresh
and
Code: Select all
sudo pkcon update
. I've reinstalled broken packages (there was one: libgcc1... not sure how it ended up broken) as well. Nothing has fixed the problem so far.

This isn't the first time this has happened, either. I recall this same issue happening a while ago, but it seemed to be fixed after running some updates in Discover. Hopefully the same thing will happen again, though it's somewhat worrying that it's happened twice now.

UPDATE 2020-11-23: I installed some more updates and tried rebooting into the normal kernel, but I'm still getting the same issue. I did check to see if my mouse was there, and sure, enough, the cursor is on the screen, but it's just invisible. To elaborate on what I see:

- everything but window title bars are lacking icons and text
- the taskbar is just a flat dark gray bar
- the content of windows is invisible
- any visible Plasma UI is just just flat dark gray rectangles
- I was able to open Spectacle and take a screenshot using keyboard shortcuts, but the resulting screenshot was just a completely black screen... even blanker than what I was seeing.

I just installed updates again, and it looks like everything is working properly now. @aceupsleeve, try running updates in Discover and rebooting.

Upon further testing, I have discovered that the keep-asking-which-display-to-use issue is still happening whenever I use the recovery kernel. So I guess that issue is unrelated to the blank-screen issue I was previously running into.
