Hello everyone,

I'm using KDE neon 20.04 with Plasma 5.20.4 and I have a small problem regarding MTP access to Android devices, I hope here's the right place to ask. 8) Using Dolphin, it works without any problems. However, a non-KDE application cannot initialize a MTP connection, the ones that I tested all result in the error message "Error mounting location: MTP device XXX,XXX could not be opened". I run into this problem using Double Commander and a few days ago I noticed this problem, but so far only found a workaround, but no real solution. My original problem and workaround is available here: https://doublecmd.sourceforge.io/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6780

From my testings I conclude that KDE keeps the connection "active" all the time. The connection can be terminated using 'android-file-transfer' (maybe also using a respective shell command) and thereafter, Dolphin cannot access the device any more (doing so requires a physical reconnection of the Android device) but other MTP connections can be initialized.

Is there any way to configure KDE such that both, KDE apps like Dolphin as well as non-KDE ones can use the MTP as required?

Appreciating any comments, thanks in advance! :)

For example, Darktable have 2 options for mouting phones :
1. directly with mount the phone
2. copy & import and mount the phone and choose directory

In Kde, neither of the 2 options works.
Kde is mounting phone wtih mtp even if the option mouting amovible devices is off

Your unique solution is
sudo killall kiod5 or doas killall kiod5
when your phone is plugged (very important)
