WIFI unusable at short distances

Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:08 pm
My wi fi on KDE Neon appears to connect fine and the signal bars are good, but if I watch the traffic it goes from an okay rate to 0 back to okay rate every second or so, and the internet is mostly unusable. I don't get any connection dropped or disconnected notifications, the network thinks its connected but I get data on every once in a while. If I get very close to the wi fi source (few feet line of site) it works good. On windows on the same machine my wi fi works good at much longer distances, through walls, so this must be a configuration issue. Also when having this issue KDE seems to stall / momentarily freeze and I'm nearly certain its related to the same networking issue.

Any ideas of how I can troubleshoot this, I really would prefer to be using KDE.
