external monitor not recognized

Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:46 pm
hi everyone! today I installed KDE neon 5.20 user edition on my laptop, i found some difficulties in fixing the audio, now before i'll begin with tons of personalizations I have one last problem: the second monitor isn't recognized: if I connect it with an HDMI to my laptop it just doesn't seem to do anything... if I try, on the same pc, booting with windows it works, so it's not a hardware problem. if I type
Code: Select all
xrandr
in my terminal this is the output:
Code: Select all
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 1920 x 1080, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 1920 x 1080
default connected 1920x1080+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1920x1080     77.00*

i thought the problem could be with the Nvidia driver, so i followed this guide, but when i tried to detect the model of the Nvidia card model typing
Code: Select all
lspci -vnn | grep VGA
this was the output:
0000:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:9a49] (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

so i'm a bit confused ??? any ideas? thank you in advance!

at the end, the problem was that my graphic card wasn't supported by ubuntu 20.04, so I had to upgrade it to 20.10, but unluckily Neon Plasma don't support it yet, so I had to switch to kubuntu.
