Having used Linux since a long time, I say I love it! Starting with SuSE Linux 7.3, using Linux Mint KDE for a long time and now, that KDE is no more part of Mint, I try KDE neon.
Awfully I have some applications which are only running in Windows. So I need VirtualBox to be able to run Windows 10 within KDE neon. But I don't see VirtualBox inside of "Discover" and the instructions how to install VirtualBox in KDE neon I found in the big and great internet didn't work for me. Probably anyone "out there" has some working links for me. I have no problem to work in "Konsole" any time. For downloads "firefox" is a great tool, also "wget" is no problem for me. The manual for pkcon is not god enough for me, how to add a new repository or a new "ppa". Here "apt" I used in Mint KDE, was working much better - but I read in the manuals of neon, that apt is no more the supported way, I have to use pkcon instead. Probably I understood something wrong, because I use neon for three weeks now, and did not find out every necessary detail yet... Thanks for any help in advance! |

After having had a look again, I found the solution at Oracle itself. But for me the description there is not good enough:
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads I opened a Konsole Window and logged in as root (using "su"). If you have no root access please add "sudo" to all the following instructions. 1. Add the following line to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
Hint: <focal> is the name of my version. Please use
to find out the name of yourUbuntu base to KDE neon. 2. Download and save oracle_vbox_2016.asc somewhere in your <home>/<subfolder(s)> stucture. 3. Then use the following three commands:
4. Next go to https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads and fetch the VirtualBox 6.1.18 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack, save it also somewhere in your <home>/<subfolder(s)> stucture. The installation is very easy: start Dolphin, navigate to the location where you had saved your downloaded extension pack and perform a right-click on the file you had downloaded before. Dolphin will do the installation task and now you can enjoy working with VirtualBox. Have fun! |

Just to update this solution, I found another way to do it from command line (you can always do the same from File --> Preferences --> Extensions --> Add new package)
Install as usual:
Check VirtualBox version:
Go to the VirtualBox Repo, search for the version of VirtualBox installed on your system and download the extension.
Install the extension using the VirtualBox Manager:
