KDE Neon 5.21 will not let me enter root gives Authentication failure . I know that the password is correct any help would be appreciated Thanks Geoff

Neon, being Ubuntu, does not use a root password.
The root account can be enabled, there are numerous how-tos on it, but is not normally recommended. On the terminal, if you want a persistent sudo state, use
claydoh, proud to be a member of KDE forums since 2008-Oct, and KDE user since 2001
