Hi,
I am currently trying to create a own network router (this PC will serve other services as well, like file sharing, network spam filter, RDP desktop, etc) and is why I've use KDE Neon as distro base (and because I use KDE Neon in all my computers at home). Now, for what I was testing, using systemd-networkd for the network part is best or ideal and of course for the AP part, using hostapd. I have for now only one ethernet (but the idea is to have 2, since it will be the router for the LAN as well) and one WIFI board (USB3 dongle) with chip rtl8814au, which already works just fine after installed the respective driver). What Is not clear to me is how to achieve the next: - I want to have 2 AP, one with 2.4G signal and another with 5G. - I had a read about this post, but only one wlan interface gets up (also that howto I believe lacks of some other settings to make this happend. - What I was thinking, is to create Virtual Interfaces to link (bridge) the main wlan to, lets says, wlan1 (to be used for 2.4Ghz in hostapd) and wlan2 (to be used for 5Ghz in hostapd). So this last part is not clear to me exactly, and still I am digging to the docs. Can someone give me a hand with this? Thanks. |

You might want to investigate running Openwrt in a VM .

OpenWRT is an option in a VM, same as Pfsense, but I prefer to do it natively, having in mind that I am Linux Admin (just never used systemd-networkd and the only one time I had to use virtual devices, I did it with old school method in /etc/network/interfaces. Also I am new to hostapd and setting an AP, by not using NetworkManager).
I know this maybe is not the right forum, but maybe someone did this too. |
