Sorry this is a pretty basic question - I have looked around but got the usual slightly conflicting answers from different places.
I understand that Neon offers the latest Plasma etc software on an Ubuntu LTS base. I have not used Ubuntu LTS before. I presume Ubuntu updates will be reflected in Neon, but that there won't be (m)any of these with an LTS version. So is it the case that if I were to install Neon today, I would get regular Plasma (and other KDE software) updates, but everything else would stay the same until the next Ubuntu LTS version comes out, at which point the whole base system could be updated and would then remain unchanged for another 2 years? So for example whatever version of, say, Firefox ships with Ubuntu 20.4 is the one you would use until Ubuntu 22.4 comes out? Thanks. |

LTS gets regular security updates over its life, and Firefox is kept up to date as well. There can be semi-regular kernel bumps, if one enables them. But otherwise, pretty much no new software version upgrades in between, outside of Plasma, Qt, Frameworks, and KDE gear.
Of course, PPAs and snap/flatpaks can be used for keeping one's favorite programs more current.

Okay, thank you - that's what I thought.
