Hello,
After rebooting my laptop, weird issues happened. The two first issues I noticed are:
- no LAN connection: no network available (I use the shared connection from my smartphone to post here)
- unable to launch VMware workstation :
Code: Select all
arnaud@L340-15IRH:~$ /usr/bin/vmware %U
/usr/bin/vmware: line 105:  2193 Segmentation fault      "$BINDIR"/vmware-modconfig --appname="VMware Workstation" --icon="vmware-workstation"

OS: KDE neon User Edition 5.22 x86_64
Host: 81LK IdeaPad L340-15IRH Gaming
Kernel: 5.8.0-55-generic
DE: Plasma
WM: KWin
CPU: Intel i5-9300H (8) @ 2.400GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 3 GB Max-Q
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630
Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter

I didn't install/remove any sofwares before rebooting and having these issues. I didn't stop an update during during a process. The only special thing I did was to toggle the option concerning the famous offline updates.
I probably installed updates.

Code: Select all
arnaud@L340-15IRH:~$ iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.
enp8s0    no wireless extensions.
usb0      no wireless extensions.

Thank you in advance for your support!

EDIT: network interface from the system settings without the connection of my phone => https://content-eu.drive.amazonaws.com/ ... 1035%2C318

/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf :
Code: Select all
[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile

[ifupdown]
managed=false

[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no

EDIT2: my wife has the same laptop / KDE Neon... and she doesn't have the problem. She didn't upgrade to 5.8!
viewtopic.php?f=309&t=171609&p=446621&hilit=5.8+now+installed#p446621

EDIT3 :
Cleaning of old kernels then :
Code: Select all
sudo apt update && sudo apt install rtl8821ce-dkms

Of course the solution depends on your network controller.

The problem was indeed the new 5.8 kernel.
After updating VMware I can run it again.

Did you check your ip configuration through your script?

ifup wlan0 up

Then you can check your configuration with ifconfig

wlan0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 192.168.1.53 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.254
ether 20:93:4d:32:5d:11 txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet)
RX packets 5286324708 bytes 1375342027180 (1.2 TiB)
RX errors 0 dropped 4887 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets 2837972568 bytes 635736610873 (592.0 GiB)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 collisions 0

You can also test using ping command
