I thought I would post here because I am not quite sure where to start, and I can't find any posts referencing an issue quite like this. I'll organize information about my issue into bulletpoints:
1. Something is causing scrolling activity on my KDE Neon system. It's stuck scrolling in certain places. I notice it over tabs in chrome, and over the volume icon in the system tray (hovering my mouse pointer over the volume icon results in it scrolling downward). continuous scrolling also happens when I press the ctrl key and my mouse pointer is in a firefox browser window; it zooms out on the window. if there is room to scroll right in a text window, the window is automatically scrolled right. The same goes for a browser window. Tabs in KDE (for example, in system settings windows) scroll to the right when the mouse is hovering over them. 2. I unplugged all USB devices from my system except for my USB keyboard and my USB wireless mouse to make sure no other devices were causing an issue, and I also ran lsinput to make sure the OS was reading my mouse and keyboard. They both register. 3. I ran od -t a /dev/input/mouse0 to see if any mouse activity registers while any of this scrolling action happens, and it does not register mouse activity. It does register activity when I press any of my mouse keys or move the mouse. 4. I unplugged the keyboard and tried hovering the mouse over the volume icon in systray, to test for whether it was any stuck keys on my keyboard. The volume still got scrolled down even when my keyboard was unplugged. 5. I put the mouse pointer over the volume icon in systray and turned off the mouse, and even with the mouse off, the volume still got scrolled down. Then I did it again with both mouse AND keyboard unplugged, and it still happened. 6. I went to a web-based keyboard test and it didn't indicate that any keys were stuck on the keyboard. 7. My keyboard is a Keychron K1 88-key. By default in system settings it was marked as a 101-key. I've tried changing it to a couple of others and still have the issue. 8. I am not sure which update broke my functional keyboard/mouse situation. This PC was unused and without updates from mid-march to early July. I updated all packages in early July. I noticed there was an OS upgrade waiting for me. After upgrading, Discover featured some odd behavior and this problem started happening as well, so I reinstalled KDE Neon fresh with an up-to-date image and now I still have this weird scrolling input problem. I have no idea where this is coming from and have no idea where to look. I'm not sure how to determine if this is an issue with Plasma, or Ubuntu, so I am not sure how to even start narrowing down where the issue is. Any idea what I can try next would be very helpful. Thanks! |
