IWD not working after kernel update

Wed Aug 04, 2021 2:42 pm
Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! :)

I've been using IWD for the wireless connection for some time now, and it's worked without issues, until now. Amongst today updates there was one for the kernel, linux-image-5.11.0-25-generic, upon reboot, I found I got no connection, rebooted again just to see if that did anything, it didn't, rebooted again and choose advanced options, then booted to the previous kernel, linux-image-5.8.0-63-generic, and IWD works again, so I assume the problem has something to do with the kernel being updated. I checked the status of iwd.service and this what I got:
Code: Select all
systemctl status iwd.service
● iwd.service - Wireless service
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/iwd.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
     Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Wed 2021-08-04 10:15:04 -04; 1min 54s ago
    Process: 1637 ExecStart=/usr/libexec/iwd (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
   Main PID: 1637 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

ago 04 10:15:04 neon systemd[1]: iwd.service: Scheduled restart job, restart counter is at 5.
ago 04 10:15:04 neon systemd[1]: Stopped Wireless service.
ago 04 10:15:04 neon systemd[1]: iwd.service: Start request repeated too quickly.
ago 04 10:15:04 neon systemd[1]: iwd.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
ago 04 10:15:04 neon systemd[1]: Failed to start Wireless service.

This is the system info:
Code: Select all
Operating System: KDE neon Testing Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.8.0-63-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 2 × AMD E-300 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
Memory: 2 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD PALM

Any ideas on how to solve this? Other than disabling the service and go back to using wpa_supplicant? Thanks in advance for all your answers.

Hi!

Ran into the same issue, there is already filled bug for this. As a temporary workaround installation of a newer IWD version from non-oficial repository is suggested. This worked out for me.

Thanks for your reply, and sorry for my late reply. :) I'll try this and see how it goes.
