Seem to hit a brick wall with the first step of trying to install KDE Neon.

After booting from the USB I get the boot options KDE Neon, safe graphics, grub command line, etc. But regardless of what I pick, I get a black screen, no cursor and no activity on the USB light.

Using the latest User Edition iso neon-user-20211104-0946 and my hardware is:

Lenovo ThinkPad T440p
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4910MQ CPU @ 2.90GHz
16.0 GB RAM
HD Graphics 4600

And the boot disk is an external 120GB SATA SSD

Exactly same problem here.
Black screen, no way out despite extensive internet research. Ubuntu installs fine.

Lenovo Yoga 930-13IKB Laptop
Intel core i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz
RAM 16 GB
Intel UHD Graphic 620

Latest neon edition 20211104-0946

Perhaps a Lenovo specific problem as I have seen multiple installation videos on youtube on different laptop brands

Help would be very much appreciated

Same here!
Have downloaded the iso image 3 times, tried 2 different usb drives and still get a black screen. The iso file must be corrupt.
Lenovo X1 Carbon i7, 8gb Ram, 250Gb SSD.

1 Lenovos is unfortunate, 2 Lenovos is suspicious, but 3 Lenovos, that's a pattern!

I will give it a go on a different Laptop brand this afternoon and let you know. By the looks it only seems to affect Lenovo computers.
Has anyone tried an older version of KDE neon? And does it work on a Lenovo laptop?

Installed it on a HP ENVY laptop without problems.
So looks like a Lenovo specific problem, most likely missing graphics driver (?).

Will try it now with an older version of KDE Neon and my Lenovo laptop if I can find one (which is not that easy).

Keep you updated.

Thanks for taking the time to test :)

So...

all I could find were to older but still fairly recent versions

neon-user-20211021-0945
neon-user-20210805-0944

I'll tried to download versions from 2020/2019 but the torrents are not working :-(

With both versions I ran into the same problem... black screen.
Tried to tweak the installer a little bit but even after a decade with Ubuntu my knowledge is not sufficient enough.
So bad luck for now.

If we lucky someone with deeper knowledge will give us a hand or we have to wait for the next update.
Guess I will play around with other Linux distros in the meantime.

Just one final comment.

I did some more extensive reading. This black screen issue is not solely a problem of KDE Neon. Other distros like POP OS oe NIX OS have similar problems (even Ubuntu and Kubuntu at some stage). But it looks like a problem of more recent versions (2020 onwards). And it not only affects Lenovo Laptops, although they are frequently mentioned'
I believe the issue has something to do with the support for Intel UHD graphics on newer ISOs as that seems to be the commonality I've seen among those that have this issue where the various modeset solutions don't work (Quote from a different forum and I tend to agree as I successfully installed Neon on an HP ENVY).

Anyway, I found two interesting articles on POP OS forums which are worth reading.

https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues/1112
https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues/1058
https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues/730 (most promising one)

and from there on you can dig deeper if you like but so far no solution, at least not for me.

So I will go back to Ubuntu, play around with POP OS a little bit and perhaps revisit KDE Neon after the next update.
I hope KDE Neon is worth all the effort :-)

Cheers

Just a blank screen with cursor when trying to install neon-user-20220210-0946.iso to Lenovo Ideapad Flex 15D.

The iso is OK, installed Neon to a HP laptop just fine, so the problem is in Lenovo.

This Lenovo model has 4 x AMD A4-5000 APU with Radeon HD Graphics. Graphic processor is AMD Kabini.
I have Kubuntu 21.10 with KDE plasma 5.24 installed in Lenovo (also Ubuntu 21.10 and Windows 10).

I guess I'll stick with Kubuntu, just would have wanted to test if Neon is easier on CPU

I've a similar issue with my Lenovo G500.
Other distros such as Kubuntu, Arch or Manjaro boot correctly with UEFI mode.
KDE Neon or Linux Mint doesn't, but there is no problem with their booting with CSM (Legacy Mode).

I had the same problem on Lenovo. I pressed "enter" button when black screen appeared and installer ran.
Already reproduced problem and this solution several times.

In my case pressing enter doesn't resolve the issue.
Booting stucks on black screen with prompt cursor visible.

I've already tried Ventoy, ROSA, dd, Rufus (under Windows) and many other tools. The result is the same.
