Hello,
Installed KDE Neon 5.23.4. In the settings, a default resolution is defined at 1024 x 768 and I could'nt change that. My monitor's resolution is 1920 x 1080. How to change ? Thanks in advance for your reply. Best regards. |

Are you sure you are talking about the installed version? This is certainly possible, just tried here on my system.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I see the same screen, but the monitor is indicated as "default" (1024 x 768) and I cannot change anything. Best regards and Merry Christmas ! |

For some reason it is not using your gpu, but using software (llvmpipe) which explains the low resolution. What is your video card? Have you added any PPAs or other repos?

My PC is a self-made desktop with an external BENQ monitor.
Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 is installed. By my knowledge no PPAs or other repos are added. |

I have the impression that no solution is possible, so I will install another Linux distribution.
Best regards. |

I had the same problem when I was testing Neon User in a VM. Turns out the problem is with KDE itself. Every time I changed the resolution, it immediately changed back to 1024x768.
If you stop and disable the KScreen-service in the auto start settings, then you're able to keep the resolution you had set in the settings menu. Unfortunately, even if I remove the checkbox in front of the KScreen service, it will still re-enable itself after a reboot, and the resolution will go down again. And that was the end of my excursion into the current state of KDE. If I can't even set the native screen resolution on the vanilla installation, then I don't want to know what issues I might face further down the road. |

I ran into the same issue with Kubuntu 22.04 (KDE Plasma: 5.24.6, KDE Frameworks: 5.92.0). I was initially only able to see or choose the default 1024 x 768 resolution, but after a reboot I could choose among lower resolutions as well. Each of the resolutions offered produced an "! Input Signal out of Range" error on my display, and used only a portion of the screen height.
My VGA monitor was connected to the DVI-I port of my video card through an adapter. I tried connecting to the Display Port connector on the card with a DP to VGA adapter. That worked, allowing the full range of monitor settings without an error. I guess that the DVI adapter prevented the display from being detected properly. It is unfortunate that there is not a way to override the settings manually. |
