Every time I log in, it takes far longer than normally and then nothing appears other than the mouse cursor and the Konsole window that I've luckily set to autostart (borderless, although kwin is running).
And plasmashell still doesn't start. I've tried to reinstall some plasma packages (-desktop, - workspace, -framework) but there's no difference. Also renamed ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc but it didn't do anything either. It worked just fine this morning. This is what I remember doing: * Installing updates (the only one was snapd) * Installing seahorse (gnome-keyring management) * Disabling and then re-enabling the gnome-keyring password

I moved every file with "plasma" in its name from .config but it made no difference…
EDIT: I created a brand new user and I can log in as that one, so it's definitely something in my home. The difficult part is to figure out what… |

SNAPD WAS THE ISSUE!
I don't know why, but that's what fixed it. After trying a lot of configuration files, none of which did anything, I put them all back and downgraded snapd. Then I log in again, and it all works! I thought it might have something to do with the themes (since it kept complaining about not finding icon themes) so I used "lookandfeeltool -l". It showed a few themes but also a lot of error output. I didn't keep it but it kept saying it can't find some plasma service in several different folders, and it listed a snapd folder as one it was looking in (although none of those erroring). So I open synaptic and downgrade the snapd package, and magically everything is back! Now I've got to remember not to upgrade it again, if there's any advice to avoid that it would help me. EDIT: It may be an effect of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1960702 I use fish as my shell, which also explains why the new profile had no issue.
