Possibility to Boot direct to Bios?

Sat Mar 12, 2022 8:05 am
Hello everyone,

i had an problem that i have solved only with windows and i ask myself, if it's possible to do this with linux.
I changed my settings in the Bios to boot ultrafast without logo. After that it booted ultrafast without logo, but there was no way to get into bios again,
because the keyboard was disabled until i was in KDE Neon. The keyboard wasn't mentioned in grub or before to go into bios with "del".
So I can't enter bios again or choose the system.
After that i found out, that there is a way under windows (my 2nd partition) to boot direct into bios. That saved me, because without that function i couldn't go into bios again.
So my question is, is there a way like in windows, to boot direct into bios from KDE or any other distribution to prevent this scenario without windows.

Greetings
Jonny

Three options:

You should have hotkeys you can press when powering on to bring up a boot options menu, as well as other options, including entering the bios. Often it will be the esc key, or f12 when powering on, but it can be other keys, depending on the specific computer.

If you still can see grub, you should have the option to do so. Hitting the esc key at the right time should show it, if it has been hidden.

If not, then look at System Settings >> Startup and Shutdown >> Desktop Session, and there is an option there for dloing so on the next boot.

Thx claydoh

the first two Options don't worked for me, because i can't use the keyboard until i startet into KDE session, so in grub i can't choose an option.
The last point means, i have to check the dialog-box with "Show Firmware-dialog at the next start". I've tested it, and it worked for me, i bootet into bios directly.

Thx

Bluetooth keyboard, I assume? That is the only thing I can think of where a keyboard doesn't work until logging in to the desktop.

no it's an wired keyboard but it dont recognize my inputs until i am in kdeneon

Another way to go to the bios is
Code: Select all
systemctl reboot --firmware-setup

I found that later in the web.
