So a while ago KDE Neon stopped booting on my desktop PC. I wasn't sure if it was because of an update or because I had messed up with my setup, but I just said "whatever, I'll just change to tty2, try to change some things and figure out what's wrong". Well that didn't work... Whenever I try to login, it clears the screen and shows me the login prompt again. I just briefly see the bash welcome text before getting asked to login again. If I press del during boot I see some tasks that fail, notably some snap related things. Also, because the file system is formatted as zfs, I can't access it through my Windows partition 🙃 So the way I figured out how access the partition was through a live USB.

ANYWAYS, what should I look for? I've tried removing .bashrc and .profile (backing them up of course), but that didn't work. I think it may have something to do with me installing docker as a snap, so I tried removing that too. What would you suggest? Why do you think I can't even log in? What logs should I check?

Thanks in advance.

Basically this is what seems to be logged in /var/log/auth.log when I try to login:
Code: Select all
Mar 13 17:57:30 jp-desktop login[1114]: pam_unix(login:session): session opened for user jp by LOGIN(uid=0)
Mar 13 17:57:30 jp-desktop systemd-logind[759]: New session 3 of user jp.
Mar 13 17:57:30 jp-desktop systemd: pam_unix(systemd-user:session): session opened for user jp by (uid=0)
Mar 13 17:57:30 jp-desktop login[1114]: pam_unix(login:session): session closed for user jp
Mar 13 17:57:30 jp-desktop systemd-logind[759]: Removed session 3.
