Hi,
Since about a month now (might be more...) I have been having this issue with Neon. When I start up my laptop, I get to the login screen, and after typing a few letters / moving the pointer / doing nothing, it freezes completely: no inputs work and the caret stops blinking as well. Sometimes I can type in my password and get to the desktop, but then it freezes there. The only workaround I have found thus far is to start grub in safe mode, and use the laptop like that, which is suboptimal (for instance, the laptop doesn't wake up from sleep). Every once in a while I can log in without it as well (usually after a nomodeset session), but if I turn off the laptop, the issue comes back. I am using a Samsung Ativ Book 8 (870Z) with a hybrid Intel / AMD GPU setup. It could be messy SW situation (I tried installing AMD GPU Pro to disable the discrete card for good, didn't go well) or a HW issue for all I know, but I don't really know how to isolate that possibility. I'd be glad if anybody could help me where to look (log files, forums, etc.) / what to look for. Thanks! |
