How to configure Wayland on Nvidia?

Sat Jun 18, 2022 3:12 pm
I'm trying to run Wayland on my NVIDIA eGPU (RTX 3060). I have the drivers installed (515) and modesetting enabled in the kernel options. However, once I boot into the desktop, everything is very laggy. System settings notes that the graphics processor is llvmpipe instead of the NVIDIA GPU, despite kwin_wayland running on the GPU.

After this, I followed the instructions found here: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland/Nvidia. I installed libnvidia-egl-wayland1, but then when I booted plasmashell itself didn't load (but autostarted applications did), rendering the desktop unusable. It was still laggy so I suspect that it was still using software rendering. Forcing EGL through the environment variable resulted in the same behavior as well. I've confirmed that modesetting is enabled when libnvidia-egl-wayland1 isn't installed (as I can't bring up a terminal once it is installed).

What configuration am I missing?

Thank you!
