I am still fairly new to Linux, and, whilst trying to install wine32 on KDE Neon (using apt), I got this error in the terminal:
As some online sources suggest, I have tried both adding the 'i386' architecture using dpkg and installing wine32 using aptitude, but it hasn't seemed to have fixed anything. Incase it matters, I am running on an Intel processor. Anyone know what could be causing this problem and/or how to fix it? Thanks in advance. |

My first thought was that the kisak Mesa PPA may be interfering, but then I remember that I have this one myself, and have no dependency issues with wine or wine32.
After enabling 32 bit support, did you run apt update to refresh your package lists before trying to install it? This needs to be done when changing things related to software and package management, and it usually does not happen automatically. I'd suggest trying that, but maybe install just 'wine' instead of only the 32 bit part of it. Installing wine will also install wine32 as a dependency, for a more complete setup. But, for a better more current Wine implementation, I'd suggest skipping installing Ubuntu's packages altogether and going straight for WineHQ's version 7.0 packaging instead of installing the stock older version 5.0. https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu Use the directions for Ubuntu 20.04, and read the whole page carefully. It will be easier to use WineHQ packages if you haven't installed any Wine packages previously. Even with a current version, Wine can, and likely will be be a decent pain in the butt

Oh, yeah - I probably should've mentioned that I had already successfully installed plain wine, but, upon trying to run programs with it, was given errors telling me to also install wine32. So, I guess the latter wasn't automatically installed for some reason. Either way, installing the newer WineHQ had proven to be the solution; I got no errors whilst installing it, and I can now properly run applications using wine. Thanks for the help. |
