Dual boot not working

Thu Mar 02, 2023 1:57 pm
Hi everybody.

I have laptop HP 250 G8 and trying to instal winblows 10 and KDE Neon as dual boot.

First installed winblows, works normally.
Then added KDE neon with properly configured EFI partition...

KDE Neon boots normally, but winblows not.
I am stuck with starting animation, you know when dots go round...

Tried various tutorials on the net, including boot-repair, winblows boot recovery, boot partition tools from other distros like Mx Linux...nothing.
I am not noob, using linux since 2006 but always used older hardware where EFI partition was not needed.
Now my first experience with EFI hardware, I just can't make it work.

Just to confirm when you start your laptop, do you get the kde neon boot screen (that allows you to select neon or windows)?

Hi.

In my laptop I need to press F9 to get to the boot options and there I have KDE Neon recognised as Ubuntu and winblows.

When I choose winblows, that animation starts (dots going round) and it never boots.

But if I choose Kde Neon (ubuntu) there is NO option to boot winblows from there.

Additional info: during instalation, I mount EFI partition (fat32) to /boot/efi and give it boot flag

Hi, whoever might be interesting.

I found the issue.

If I mount winblows partition before pressing instal, it will erase all data on winblows partition and that's why it won't boot

If I don't, everything will be fine.

It's a weird behaviour because I was on Pclinuxos and Mx linux before and alway mounted winblows partition before pressing "instal" and never had any issues.
